The Longing and How It All Began
The special stories in life begin with a vision, an unquenchable longing. Maybe it’s just a feeling in your gut or a fixed idea, but over time it grows, takes up space and can no longer be ignored. Our story begins with such a longing: the desire to become an olive farmer – or rather the desire for peace and freedom, an alternative to working in an office. To be master of your own life. And so in 1998 Ruth & Giorgio set out to visit a small country estate not far from Massa Marittima.
The light of the October sun bathed the old oaks on the driveway in shimmering gold and the view of the sea was clear and tangible. Overwhelmed by the beauty and tranquility of this wild jewel, the two became owners of “Podere Acquarello”, an intuitive decision from the gut – and it was here that a dream began between the rolling hills and cypresses of southern Tuscany. With great attention to detail, they restored the old, traditional country houses, planted new ones and pruned old olive trees and expanded the agricultural land of the estate to include vineyards and olive groves.
The Dream and How It Continues
Since 2022, Julia & Julian and their children have been able to continue living this dream in the Maremma. With a view to sustainability and holistic approach, the second generation of the family has committed itself to organic farming and is converting the estate into modern, resource-saving agriculture. In particular, topics such as biodiversity and the protection of the incredible biodiversity on this beautiful piece of earth play a central role in our work.
Our declared aim is to preserve this little piece of paradise for future generations, to leave our children a home worth living in and to give our guests a profound insight into the wonderful nature of Tuscany. Together we have found a lifelong dream, a place to arrive and linger, and we share it with everyone who finds their way to us.
